It's not often you come across a magazine which grows in strength after each new issue. Studio 83 is that kind of magazine, the kind which really makes you sit up, read it, and think "damn, seriously?".
George Matsheke really should be proud, (and I'm not just saying that since he graciously decided to include my People of Durban series in the latest issue), he really has created a creative lifestyle magazine that is not only informative, but also contains some of the hottest photography and writing to come out of South Africa today.
I've found local magazines to be very bland and repetitive, often all writing about the same story and using the same tired photography. What Studio 83 does differently is that they make use of new/raw talent, that often would be overlooked by editors and magazines for not having enough experience, or not knowing the right person within the editorial team.
I understand that many creative teams often like working with people they know, but sometimes you will find the next big thing, by just stepping out of your comfort zone and letting someone new show what they can do. I urge everyone to download the latest issue, drop the editorial team an e-mail and give them your views on this amazing magazine and also look at the older issues to see what I mean about the magazine growing.
