I remember the first time I heard Zap Mama. My mom's best friend was visiting us in Cape Town and he brought Zap Mama's Ancestry in Progress album and played it for us.This was some years ago. I was taken. I went to go buy the album the next day. As some of you may know, Zap Mama is a Belgian group headed by Marie Daulne. She is so prominent that people tend to think she is Zap Mama and forget about the rest of the outfit.

I went to go see them perform last year at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and they were amazing - of course. I love their style and Marie's voice - she's quite the beatboxer too. I love this song. And if you look at Erykah's style and her music, you can see Zap Mama's influence in it.
