Ebony is a monthly magazine founded by John H. Johnson in 1945. Targeted at the African-American market, it features articles pertaining to this group within the entertainment industry and sociological trends that concern them such as politics, arts, culture and the like.

For its 65th anniversary cover, Ebony has put up a voting poll of influential African-Americans to be featured. The likes of Denzel Washington and Mo'Nique have been mentioned. Even lesser known or famous individuals such as

It's as if Ebony is a print version of Metro FM's Sunday afternoon line up. Stuck in the 90s, or more so in the past. Not that I don't like Metro FM, but I also want more from Ebony. From what I remember from the 60th anniversary edition, many topics of the 60 years concerning African-Americans had been covered. I truly hope the 65th anniversary edition can move away from those topics and perhaps focus more on the past 5 years.

A few of the celebrities mentioned, although, give me hope of freshness and interest. I will give Ebony credit for its non-cluttered covers. Simple headline to attract the readers.

Some celebrities need to be excluded from the list. Halle Berry, Denzel Washington and Jamie Fox had their chance with the 60th anniversary edition. And Oprah graces a magazine every month in the US and in South Africa. And Ebony just LOVES Obama and his family. Others have been left out of the poll list such as the Williams sisters. Worry not, there is an "Other" option.
