Happy Monday to you all
What we're gonna do right here, is go back, way back...back to the mgusha days... back to the running away from the neighbours dog days... back to climbing your neighbour's blackberry tree days... back in history.
"Not yet Uhuru" is a title of a book written by the first vice-president of Kenya, the late Oginga Odinga, who observed that a government led by blacks was as oppressive as the colonial government. He found that not only was there no equal rights, there were no privileges. He saw that even though his country had gained independence and freedom, they were still subjucated. With that being said, Letta Mbulu felt it the perfect title for a song that bore the same sentiment as Kenya - and she went on to title her first South African album that too.
Letta Mbulu, along with her husband and other South African musicians, had been in exile for 26 years. Upon her return to the country in 1991, her and her husband, Caiphus Semenya, went into the studio to start on her first album recorded on South African soil. Letta's 7th album, Not Yet Uhuru was released in 1992. The song speaks of her first experiences of our country after having been away so long and returning to a country that was Not yet Uhuru.

We are fighting a different struggle right now as a country, we are fighting poverty, incompetence and laziness. The youth is more about fame then fortune or legacy ... we are not there yet ... not yet uhuru
the battle continues...
