Seldom you will see Complex doing the same concept over and over again - this idea right here, they have done it too many times. It seems like the idea they use when nothing else has worked or when they haven't got a good idea at all.
I think this cover is weak on complex's level ... this issue seems rushed for some reason. On this issue they are using similar direction as The Fader magazine - which im not so sure if it works for Complex. The Fader uses the direction of spending a day with whoever they are covering for a couple of days - kinda like a documnetary style. We shall wait for the next issue then ...
*Sorry for the pixelated image of Truelove magazine.
I think this is the best cover Truelove has produced this year, from the colours, choice of clothing, and the art direction of the copy. Lerato Tshabalala is now the editor of Truelove and I believe thats a great choice from the publishers - she will do well and she has the right energy for Truelove.
Destiny Man magazine, maybe I'm not the target market here - maybe and maybe not. Couple of things that I don’t get with this magazine...
1. Why is it the design the same as Destiny Magazine? - I'd understand if the design was similar because they are from the same house/home/parent but I don’t understand why they are the same design wise. My thinking is that they are targeting two different people therefore two different design styles, no?
2. I might be wrong on this one, so I stand to be corrected. When I looked at the credits of the magazine I discovered that majority of the writers are female [it didnt make sense to me, its like if Truelove having more male writers apposed to female] - with one or two male features writers. Why is that? Maybe it might be a budget thing because it’s the same writers who write for Destiny magazine.
I think that’s about it.

I love the Bonang cover
